Some practical formulas & calculators

      • Square and rectangular carbon (black) steel tubes
        Weight per meter in kg/m & lb/ft

      • Round carbon (black) steel tubes and round
        alloyed and high alloyed steel tubes

        Weight per meter in kg/m & lb/ft for carbon steel tubes
        Weight per meter in kg/m & lb/ft for alloyed tubes

      • Weight conversion for any steel tube from kg/m & lb/ft

Square and rectangular carbon (black) steel tubes:

Weight per meter in kg/m & lb/ft
kg/m = (Oc - 4Wt) * Wt * 0.00785

Square Tube

Rectangular tube

Oc = outside diameter, Wt = wall thickness
For square steel tubes: Oc = 4*a
For rectangular steel tubes: Oc = 2a + 2b

(1) Example for square steel tube 40 * 40 * 2 mm (40/40/2 mm)

Oc = 4*a = 160
Wt = 2
(160 - 8) * 2 * 0.00785 = 2.39 kg/m

(2) Example for rectangular steel tube 40 * 20 * 2 mm (40/20/2 mm)
Oc = 2a + 2b = 80 + 40 = 120
(120 - 8) * 2 * 0.00785 = 1.76 kg/m
