BPOCO DRIVEWAY SEALER

USES
DRIVEWAY SEALER is a specially formulated coal tar emulsion used as a protective coating. It is used to preserve asphalt areas, to seal hairline cracks and to resist the most adverse weathering action. It is specially recommended where fuel or oil spillage is likely to occur.

APPLICATION SURFACE PREPARATION
New asphalt areas, hot-mix patches and cold mix patches must thoroughly cure and consolidate before the DW SEALER is applied. The surface should be clean, free of dust, loose stones, grease and other foreign matter. Broom sweeping or flushing with water under pressure will clean ordinary surfaces. Accumulation of grease or oil should be scraped or scoured off using a detergent followed by a thorough water-rinse. Areas soaked with jet fuel, oil or petroleum products which resist satisfactory cleaning should be relaid. Alternately, it can be ground to a depth of 1.6 3.0 mm from the surface. Areas that are excessively oxidized (grey in colour) or contain very hard aggregates like granite and impacted dirt should be primed.
The pavement should present an even surface prior to coating. In cold-mix surfaces it is particularly recommended that a small trial patch be applied to be certain that no softening, cracking or pooling develops. The pavement must have sufficient stability to carry the required loading if seal coating is to be effective. After proper cleaning, the surface should be dampened (no puddles) in preparation for the application.

APPLICATION METHOD
Prior to application, the material should be stirred to a uniform, homogeneous consistency. A maximum of 15% water, by volume, is allowable to give consistency suitable for application.
With surfaces dampened, the first coat should be poured on the pavement and spread out evenly and smoothly, using brushes, squeegees or mechanical applicators.

INTRODUCTION
A very busy air force runway, a civilian airport taxi way, an overcrowded apron, an overworked parking area, an expanse of overused asphalt, all these in time, very short time, show their use. Thin, invisible hairline cracks appear which will ultimately put the area out of service. Unthinkable and may be disastrous if the timing is bad.

The sealer should be thoroughly worked into surface voids of the pavement to ensure a continuous protective film. An excessively heavy coating, "birdbaths" or "fat spots" are highly undesirable. The second coat should be applied when the first has satisfactorily dried (see Drying time). Wherever possible it is recommended that the second coat be applied at right angles to the direction of the initial coat. The same spreading procedure should be followed in putting down both coats. If one day or more elapses between the first and second coat, a fine mist or water spray will improve the ease of applying the second coat.

COVERAGE
Apply at a total application rate of 1 litre/M2 (undiluted) in two coats.

SAND FILLED COATING
For service roadways, rough pavements or where either increased traction or void filling is desired, apply two coats at a total application rate of 1-1.5 litres/M2 of slurry mixture using 0.5 kg/litre of clean sharp 20-40 mesh sand in the first coat and 0.5 litre/M2 for second coat.

EQUIPMENT
BITUMAT DW SEALER can be applied by brush, squeegee or mechanical applicators or a combination of these. A push broom having fine tapioca, nylon or similar fibers is recommended for open textured pavement surfaces, for putting down the first coat. Rubber-edged squeegees can also be utilized as long as they deposit the proper amount of material.
Mechanical! applicators employing both brushes and squeegees are suitable as are pressure applicators.

DRYING TIME
Drying time is directly related to the ambient air temperature, relative humidity and factors such as film thickness, wind velocity, etc. For best results, it is recommended that material be applied at temperatures between 15°C and 27°C.
Light traffic may be permitted when dry. Heavy traffic or parking of vehicles or aircraft should be avoided until the coating has thoroughly cured in order to prevent damage and pickup.

APPLICATION PRECAUTIONS
Work only in good weather. Do not apply in rain or when frost or rain is forecasted within 24 hours. As temperature and humidity affect curing
